Color Chameleon

Hello dear blog-following friends! I hope you all had a wonderful weekend and made the most of every moment…(well almost every moment). I am up bright and early this morning to begin my new job and retail adventure. In my new position, I will be selling finer furniture (and hopefully lots of it) to fellow Fort Worthians! (Would a more established Texan correct me if I wrote that incorrectly?)

So, in the spirit of new beginnings and lifestyle changes, I thought I would implement a few improvements/additions to Hilary Inspired, as well. As you all are probably very well aware of, style and fashion (along with interior design) play a significant role in inspiring me on a daily basis. I thoroughly enjoy the process of conceiving, selecting, and editing my daily apparel as a physical extension of my personal expression. Color, texture, proportion, shape, and pattern are just part of how I see the world day to day and it all begins with getting dressed in the morning!

And what is this blog all about?…inspiration of all shapes and forms!!! So, along with regular programming, I would like to also include occasional personal style stories, as I’m going to call them. They will involve items and ensembles that are currently influencing my perspective and inspiring my creativity in the context of my environment.

I think this is going to be a fun and self-instructing project for the Hilary Inspired blog. I hope you continue to enjoy what you find here and would love to hear your feedback!! Have a wonderful day!

Ready for Rue?

Hopefully you said, “YES of course! And where can I find it?”. Ā And answering that, I would send you HERE to read the premier issue of what is sure to be a trend setter in online shelter and lifestyle magazines along with the likes of Lonny and Domino Magazine. (yes, I said it…Rue is just that good!). Ever since I heard about the magazine’s September 16th launch, I have been curiously awaiting what has become a hot topic among the design blog world. (If you’ve been following me over the past month, then you may remember this preview.) After reading it for the first time this afternoon, I was absolutely blown away by their gorgeously created publication! Since my posting has been lacking today (I do apologize), I am sending you instead to read Rue Magazine for your daily design and style fix…you’re going to LOVE it…I am sure!!

When you’re done, swing back by Hilary Inspired and let me know what you think. I’d love to have a Rue chat!

Designer Spotlight: Nate Berkus

Have you heard the news? The latest and greatest of TV and design…Mr. Nate Berkus himself now has his very own show for all to see!!! (Find the Episode Guide HERE). I have always been a huge fan of Nate’s modern yet warm and inviting style and so I couldn’t wait for the premiere of his daily show on NBC, The Nate Berkus Show, Life by Design. When I visited his new and improved website the other day, I was blown away by his beautifully updated portfolio. So, today’s post is a “Designer Spotlight” on the incredibly talented and endlessly charming Nate Berkus.

Nate’s easy use of mustard yellow, emerald green, and muted grey are right on topic for this season’s best Fall looks. Personally, I love these colors regardless of the season!

After browsing through pages of enviable scenes via the creative eye of Mr. Berkus, I’m sure he will bring only the most exceptional and inspiring content to his show. Tune in and find out for yourself.

Oh yes, and while I’m on the subject of promoting…don’t forget that today is the last day of the CB2 & The Selby Contest (contest officially ends at 11:59 pm, Sept 15th). We’ve come a long way and are SO CLOSE!! But we’re not there yet. So, if you haven’t voted or know someone that might want to, please take a moment and do so…every vote puts us one step closer to reaching our goal and achieving a dream! Familiar Rhythms

It doesn’t take much to excite my interest…my husband can attest to that. I officially have one of the worst attention spans EVER. Walk me into a favorite shop stocked with bright colors and shiny objects and I’m gone! But many times, that some thing that catches my eye and sparks a glint of interest is not grand or glamorous.

Often, I find the most inspiration out of everyday, “mundane” familiarities. Such as the wood grain on a set of old stairs…the grid of carefully arranged metal piping…the quickly changing pattern of afternoon shadows. All items I encounter everyday on my journey from home to car to work, back to car and finally home again.

Like I said, it doesn’t take much…except a searching eye and an openness to the unexpected.

Mini-Spirals

Spiral staircases have recently become a daily encounter for me. In a way, they have are both my design inspiration as well as my daily workout routine. So, the other day when I was browsing through my interior design inspiration archives (you would not believe how many images I have collected!) and found a few photographs featuring miniature spiral staircases, I thought it would be an appropriate post for today.

Finding Kitty

This week launched the beginning of New York Fashion Week for the Spring 2011 season, which means crowds of savvy industry participants and interested guests will descend on the area in their finest Fall apparel. And what is the first thing that comes to mind when considering this upcoming Fall season?…Return of classic feminine. And nothing symbolizes that quintessential elegance better than the kitten heel.

Study Hall

Stylish storage takes craft. It’s not easy to make your favorite reads easily accessible along with your prized nick-knacks and cherished snapshots without creating an overwhelming collection of clutter. And how do you avoid this dilemma, you ask? A mix of editing, prioritizing, mixing, and highlighting. These folks have got it figured out and I’m studying up on all their tactics.

Feelin’ Like Loafers: Back to School & the Non-Student

September is a month that will forever symbolize two things to me: the encroaching cool weather and the return to school. Of course, my life has changed dramatically since my graduation from college this past Spring, so school is no longer a part of my transition into Fall. And I am very glad to say that I have reached this chapter of my life…the non-student life. Regardless, I still feel those same longings that accompany the academic season. Desires for structure, pursuit, new people, new places, fresh material and theĀ constant game of catching your goals by the tail and achieving more than you expected. Ahhh. I do miss that…….oops, what? Miss?! I swore I’d never say that! Alas, that’s not the first time I have contradicted myself. To celebrate both the achievement as well as the memory of school days gone by (maybe for you they are present), I am composing a collection of school inspired style. Study up!
