Texas Bound!

So I’m off to Dallas/Fort Worth Texas on a preliminary housing/job hunt trip. David and I are taking the long road West with my brother Andrew and his fiance Jordan. We will be there for about 10 days and during our stay we hope to find a comfortable and convenient place to live as well as an exciting, inspiring and reliable job for me! It’s gonna be a busy week…but I can’t wait. Our Texas adventure in the next chapter of our life begins now! I’ll be documenting our experiences along the way with my new Nikon D5000, so you won’t miss a beat.

But until then, here are a few photos I snapped the other day (*with my beautiful new camera) of my good friend, Christina.

Isn’t she adorable and those sunnies?…smokin’! Btw, we were cheering on our guys in a pick-up game of soccer with makeshift vuvuzelas made out of blades of grass. It was a blast!

And the guys were looking pretty good, too!

Innova-sion

*Wink….get it…innovation and fash. ok, I know I’m cheesy. But I can’t help it! Anyway, here’s a little something quirky and fun to jumpstart your week. I just had to share!

(by the way, I found these images via my friend Christina *thanks Christina* but the site name is not one I want to spell out here. Sooo, put the pieces together yourself and if you feel like checking out the source, you can visit it at foundsh*t.com.)

As an alternative source, you can find this remarkable artist here.

And this is definitely my favorite peice…besides the humble material this is an absolutely gorgeous dress! (And I kinda like the material). Talk about patience and time. Whew!

Person to Place: Episode 1

The other day, I posed a question to you, my wonderful readers, asking for suggestions regarding weekly features you would like to see here on Hilary Inspired…while I didn’t get an overwhelming response, I think I will go with a personal favorite inspired by none other than Domino Magazine. So without further ado,

Introducing an insightful translation from Person to Place.

Here’s how it works:

First the Person…

Then the Place…

Simple as that! By the by, this combination of classic elements, warm neutrals, soft and plush textures, simple accessorizing, gold details, and contemporary mix of new and old is a style aesthetic that I feel as though I identify with the most. As I grow and develop in my understanding of personal style and artistry, my goal is to channel a clearer, truer representation of me. Today’s post is a step towards making that identification.

Camera Bag Quest

Hello again, friends! This particular post is actually a request for assistance. You may not know it  (because I haven’t announced it) but I recently made an exciting investment in a Nikon D5000 DSLR camera! I have been having the best time learning the ropes of digital photography and can’t wait to share more original material from it here on Hilary Inspired in the future. However, I am really interested in finding a more suitable case for my lovely new accessory. I know many of you out there also maintain blogs or perhaps have photography as a hobby. Do you have any suggestions for attractive camera bags that are safe, functional, and still attractive and low-key (i.e. not obviously a camera bag)?

Here are a few that I have found already.

The selection out there seems to be slim. (Entrepreneurs/designers…there is an undersaturated market waiting to be tapped!) While these shown above are very nice pieces, they are not quite my style. Right now I am using the bag that came with my beginners kit, so I am willing to wait for just the right bag. I would love to find something more like this:

But made for camera carriage.

Searching, waiting…hope you have suggestions!

1, 2, 3…Different Ways

Gary Spain is a new found design favorite that I am excited to share with you. While browsing his portfolio, I noticed a set of photographs documenting a funky living space done-up three different ways. I thought it would be a fun example of how the possibilities in a space are often endless. Here is a designer who has actually explored several options in the same room…what a great learning opportunity!

There is certainly something to love in each of these ensembles but I am particularly drawn to this last one. So, which room is your favorite?

Remember…

…I certainly do! It was only one of my all-time favorites, Domino Magazine. So, just because I feel like it, today’s second post is a tribute to Domino and particularly their popular outfit (or tablescape) into a room feature.

You may recognize the bottom image from a few days ago…it continues to inspire me.

On the same subject, I’ve been thinking about starting a weekly feature where I translate an outfit into a room or vice versa. Is that something you would be interested in? If so, please leave a comment? I am working on developing a few regular features and would love to have your input!

A Quiet Corner

Sometimes all you need is a softly lit, quiet corner to relax and reflect.
